April 17th 1864
Dear father i have an opportunity once more to write i received the dictionary and a letter from Emmy. I am well and hope this may find you all [missing word]. We have got back to our old command of hope we will have some rest here. I am sure they didn't give us any at Knoxville. We are camped between Chattanooga and Cleveland, close to the raill. John days has got back to the company.[p.2] Lt. Crawford Cap. Newland is at Knoxville commanding [cenellesents?] they are no news here so i will [lese?] write often as possible i have not had a letter only Emmys for a month
