Murfreesboro Tenn April 21 1863
Dear [lasan?] in this morning seated mi self to write you a few lines to let you know that i am well and hope those few lines will find you well [?] well well joseph you must excuse the fare note answer your letter that i got a good while ago for we and much time to rite the way we are here when i got that leter from you. We were on the march when i got that letter from you and neglect writing till now so turn over Page 1
[p.2] Well joseph I am in the 40th regiment Indiana in campey 16 under Captain Gordon. Well joseph i would like to be back there with you a while a game we could have some good times i think and our Regiment is out one a can't move for six days. Bud is with them i think that will have a fight before that came back i and [Cooken?] For the captain now may i don't have doutey To do those times i out [ceren?] where wethes the ware games too a clouse are note bute i think ite will some of these days tim
Well Joseph i want you to write to me as soon as you can. I would like to hear from you to hear how the time in [?] have father has moved? Out of the mine [?] prairie he has rented a farm out there he is in a good country for farming he can do well i think. Well joseph I will have to soon bring my letter to a close for the time i will write the more the next time so no more.
