Camp near Nashville Nov 30th
Dear father i received a letter from you dated 24 you said my boots would be done on Thursday, this is the first time i have had time to write, since i received your last letter but i had wrote the day before that if you did not get that letter send the boots to nashville and write [p.2] so [missing words] when [missing words] last [missing words] guard [missing words] a [missing words]
occurred to one of our boys in our company we was marching along and Lieu. Stutton and John Shanks was fooling with their guns when Shanks gun went off and shot Stutton arm of close up to shoulder Stutton was sent to Nashville. I heard yesterday that he was dead the ball also struck [p.3] a man on a mule killing him. Lieu Stutton was one of them orphans brought from New York. He lived before he enlisted at george. Lough down about Jamestown some where you may have noticed him. He was about the size of John Kiser heavy set and was good soldier but was full of fun it is a wonder more are not shot punching one anoth
