November 27 Camp of 6th
Dear Father [letter] [to hear that you was] south of Nashville on the Murfreesboro pike we have [missing words][p.2] days had three skirmishes with the rebs yesterday morning we was routed up at three o'clock and went as far as the pickets and formed a battle line and waited till daylight but the rebs did not come as we came in I left the company and took near [p.3] out on them i manage to capture six heads of cabbage. We had three of them for dinner yesterday and will have three more today the smoke bothers me so i will have to stop write down.
L.Bryant P.S. you can send my boots for me, expect to stay here some time.
